Nearly 49,000 seek unemployment benefits in HCM City in Jan-Apr

Nearly 49,000 people in Ho Chi Minh City filed for unemployment benefits in the first four months of 2026, according to the city’s Employment Service Centre.

The centre said it received 48,524 applications for unemployment benefits between January 1 and April 25, including 47,089 submitted in person and 1,435 online applications.

Authorities approved unemployment benefits for 42,098 people during the period.

The centre also recorded more than 211,000 visits from job seekers reporting their employment search status, while coordinating with social insurance authorities on benefit payments and the recovery of improperly paid allowances.

In addition, 1,615 unemployed workers receiving benefits were supported with vocational training programmes aimed at improving job skills.

During the four-month period, the centre organised or participated in 62 job fairs and recruitment events, provided career counselling and job referrals to more than 194,000 people, and held 28 job-search skills workshops for workers and businesses.
