National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man re-elected

Tran Thanh Man has been re-elected as chair of Vietnam’s National Assembly after securing unanimous support from lawmakers.

The National Assembly on April 6 approved a resolution appointing Tran Thanh Man as chair for the 2026-2031 term, with 100 per cent of voting deputies in favour.

A total of 491 out of 491 deputies present voted to re-elect him, representing 98.20 per cent of all National Assembly members.

The resolution took effect immediately upon approval, confirming his continuation in the role.

Born in 1962 in Hau Giang Province, Tran Thanh Man holds a doctorate in economics and has held multiple senior positions within the party and state.

He has been a member of the party’s central committee across several terms and currently serves as a politburo member. He is also a National Assembly deputy across four consecutive terms.

His career includes extensive work in local government in Hau Giang and Can Tho, where he served as vice-chair and later chair of the municipal administration, as well as more than four years as party secretary.

In 2018, he was appointed chair of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, after previously serving as its vice-chair.

He was elected vice-chair of the National Assembly in April 2021 and later became its standing vice-chair.

In May 2024, he was elected chair of the 15th National Assembly before securing re-election in the new term.
