Tens of thousands of people remained patient to pay tribute to General Vo Nguyen Giap in front of his private house yesterday, the final day it was opened to receive the public.
The house was opened for five days for the tribute, starting from 2:30 p.m on October 6. By October 10 morning, up to more than 400,000 came there to pay their respects.
On the final day opened, the house was very crowded with flows of people waiting for their turn to pay homage in the sun. They created a circle stretching more than four blocks. They were worried that if they did not hurry they would never have a chance to pay their respects to the hero.
Students and volunteers brought water and food the people. They even fanned some standing in the sun.
As regulated, people were only to be allowed to pay the tribute before 6:00 p.m on October 10, but hours later, streams of people continued flocking to the house, so the opening time was extended to until 8:00 p.m.
