Most HCM City residents possess Covid-19 antibodies

Around 98 percent of residents in HCM City have been found to carry antibodies against Covid-19, according to a survey of 839 random people.

The survey was jointly conducted in September by the city’s Centre for Disease Control, the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases and Oxford University Clinical Research Unit.

Researchers collected serum randomly from people aged between 0 and 70 across the city to measure anti-SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N)-protein and anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike (S)-protein antibodies.

The result indicated that roughly 88.2 percent of the 839 surveyed people have N-protein antibodies, meanwhile, 98.7 percent have S-protein antibodies.

Some 86-97 percent of people aged five and below 70 have tested positive for anti-SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N)-protein and the rate is 76 percent for those aged from 76 percent.

Meanwhile, 98.7 percent of people have S-protein antibodies, which are produced either by vaccination or infection.

People aged below 12 see the lowest volume of S-protein antibodies, which suits the vaccination rate.

The research team has planned to collect more samples for the survey next month.

The city’s health sector has called on maintaining antibodies against Covid-19 by applying vaccination for everyone from five years old.
