More rare wild animals rescued in Hue

Forest protection units in Hue City, Thua Thien-Hue Province, have received several rare wild animals voluntarily handed over by residents.

The joint forest protection unit of Thuan Hoa and Phu Xuan Districts took in a Javan pangolin from Nguyen Dinh Quyen in Long Ho Ward and two Indochinese box turtles handed over by Nguyen Van Thuong in Duong No Ward.

Meanwhile, Phu Loc District’s Forest Protection Board received another Javan pangolin from a resident.

In a separate case, a family in Phong My Commune, Phong Dien Town, handed over a pygmy slow loris to the authorities.

The Javan pangolin and the slow loris are classified as Group IB species, which are banned from all commercial exploitation under Vietnamese law. Violations involving these species may result in criminal prosecution.

The Indochinese box turtle is listed as a Group IIB species subject to strict controls on exploitation and use.

All five animals are currently undergoing health checks, rescue and care before being released back into the wild.
