Hanoi will build new overpasses in the ongoing attempt to ease traffic congestion, an official has said.

A newly built overpass at the Lang Ha-Huynh Thuc Khang intersection
Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, requested on May 3 that the city’s Department of Transport complete construction of an overpass at the Noi Bai Motorway-Nam Hong T-junction before the Tet holiday. Construction on the bridge began on April 6.
He also recommended an overpass at the intersection of Le Van Luong and Lang, and another at Nguyen Chi Thanh-Lang T-junction right in May 2012. These works would be scheduled for completion by October 10 and before Tet, respectively.
The municipal Department of Transport was told to make plans for the building of other overpasses at Dai Co Viet-Tran Khat Chan, Chua Boc-Pham Ngoc Thach and Bach Mai-Le Thanh Nghi intersections in late June 2012.
Khoi also addressed other major transport projects managed by the municipal government for the 2011-2015 period. He requested that the city’s Department of Planning and Investment submit plans to repair road No. 70, including Ha Dong-Thang Long Avenue, Thang Long Avenue-Nhon and Ha Dong-Van Dien sections by May 15.
Two overpasses at Chua Boc-Tay Son and Lang Ha-Huynh Thuc Khang intersections were opened to traffic on April 24, after four months of construction.
Many experts have said that the majority of offices and schools in Hanoi are located in the inner city, and blamed much of the city's traffic problems on this situation.
