Tam Dao, located about 70km from Hanoi, is a popular trekking destination known for its challenging terrain. The mountain range stretches roughly 50km and includes several peaks above 1,000 metres, such as Thien Thi, Thach Ban and Phu Nghia.

The area is characterised by steep slopes, dense bamboo forests and frequent fog, making navigation difficult and requiring strong physical fitness and orientation skills.
Most trekking routes begin within Tam Dao National Park and pass through rugged paths with sheer cliffs, where climbers often rely on tree roots or ropes to traverse dangerous sections.
