Minister delivers leaders’ gifts to war veterans in Ho Chi Minh City

Minister of Home Affairs Do Thanh Binh visited wounded and sick veterans in Ho Chi Minh City, delivering gifts from General Secretary and State President To Lam ahead of Liberation Day celebrations.

On April 28, marking the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-April 30, 2026), Minister Do Thanh Binh led a delegation from the Ministry of Home Affairs to visit wounded and sick veterans receiving care at the Long Dat Rehabilitation Centre for War Invalids and Meritorious People in Long Hai Commune, Ho Chi Minh City.

During the visit, Minister Do Thanh Binh went to each table to ask about the veterans’ health conditions and extended wishes for good health and happiness to every individual.

Tong Duc Binh, director of the centre, said it is currently caring for and treating 30 war invalids from two different periods, including those who fought during the war against the United States and those who served in Cambodia.

The centre also provides medical examinations and treatment for 13 additional wounded and sick veterans from Ho Chi Minh City.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Do Thanh Binh recalled the historic significance of the Spring Victory of 1975 and emphasised that the great victory had been made possible by the immense contributions and heroic sacrifices of generations of soldiers and officials, including the wounded and sick veterans present at the centre.

“I am deeply moved, full of admiration and pride for the sacrifices and contributions of wounded and sick veterans in the struggle for national liberation, national defence and international duties,” he said.

“At the same time, I also share the physical pain and hardship that many of you continue to endure.”

At the ceremony, the minister presented 30 gifts from General Secretary and State President To Lam to the 30 veterans being cared for at the centre to mark the anniversary.

Each veteran also received an additional personal gift package from the leadership of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Minister Do Thanh Binh said that gratitude and support for people who contributed to the revolution and their families had always remained a priority for the Party, the State and the Vietnamese people.

Representing the 30 veterans at the centre, Thach Thi Lam said she had witnessed major improvements in the country over the past 51 years since reunification.

She said people now enjoyed better living conditions, children were exempt from tuition fees, citizens had access to healthcare, older people received support, and the economy had become stronger.

“The sacrifices we made for the country were worthwhile and a source of pride, helping create peace and independence so future generations can live in the peaceful environment we have today,” she said.
