Minister of Defence Phung Quang Thanh
Military activities at Tan Son Nhat Airport were hindering civil aviation, especially during maintenance or test flights.
Thanh had agreed to the transfer of 20 hectares in the first phase. He said an additional 20 hectares for infrastructure development could also follow so that Cong Hoa Street could be expanded and better connected to the airport to ease congestion.
The air force have moved out of HCM City to neighbouring areas. The military in Hanoi will also hand over some land by Noi Bai Airport to expand Le Trong Tan Street and are also making plans in Danang to move out of the airport.
The military may have option to use the land if necessary in the future.
Thanh also said Cam Ranh Port in Khanh Hoa Province which would officially open in February, would serve both cruise ships and foreign military vessels.
"Cam Ranh Port will have similar model to Changi Port in Singapore," he said.
