 Search for missing crew member

On the afternoon of October 16, a boat named Thanh Le 08 transporting 400 cubic metres of A92 fuel to Binh Duong Province collided with another vessel when it reached port.

The accident did not result in much damage, but after the boat was stabilised, the crew realised that one of the crew members, Tran Hieu Trung, had gone missing. Trung may have jumped into the river for fear of an explosion.

Rescuers in HCM City, Binh Thanh police and the local water patrol units came to the scene for rescue operations and 42 divers searched for Trung until morning without finding the man. The crash left a 0.5 metre crack in the side of Thanh Le 08 and police sent boats to clean up the oil and unload the ship's cargo.

Captain Huynh Van Tuan, head of the rescue team in HCM City said, "The dark hindered our search along with strong currents and heavy traffic. Our search continues and we will do everything possible to find the missing man."
