Long Thanh Airport model
After a long preparation period, the construction of the Long Thanh Airport Project will start on January 5. Airports Corporation of Vietnam will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the project.In the first phrase, they will build one runway and one terminal along with some supporting packages to serve 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of goods per year. It is hoped that the airport can be opened in 2025. The investment for the first phrase is USD4.19bn.
Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The said Long Thanh Airport will receive much investment to become a major international airport with new technology that can compete with the airports in Singapore and Thailand. The terminal designs will be environmentally-friendly and everything will be automated as much as possible.
On January 4, three construction packages of My Thuan-Can Tho Highway will be started. It has an investment of over VND4.8trn (USD206m) which comes from the state budget. The My Thuan-Can Tho Highway Project has been delayed many times. It used to be a BOT project, however, after failing to find a suitable investor, it was converted into a public project.
Also in January, the Ministry of Transport will put into use several major projects. For example, the new runway of Tan Son Nhat Airport and Noi Bai will be opened on January 1.
On January 8, the ministry will re-open Thang Long Bridge which is under repair.
