Many firms in the southern province of Long An will be allowed to resume operations with a maximum of 50 percent staffing from today, September 15.

The Long An Provincial People's Committee have issued a plan to resume activities at local firms, with the intention of maintaining economic development while fighting the pandemic.

In the first stage which lasts from September 15 to October 15, only firms which follow the stay-at-work model or produce essential goods, or participate in global supply chains are allowed to resume operations with a maximum of 50 percent staffing.

In the second stage, the committee will adjust the activities based on the situation after October 15.

Workers who want to return to work must have at least one Covid-19 vaccine jab given at least 14 days before. They also have to test negative for Covid-19 via the PCR method within 72 hours before their return.

The firms will have to carry out Covid-19 tests for all workers every week. They will also have to organise travel for staff that don't stay at their workplace.

A report from the committee showed that many firms in the area have had to suspend operations for Covid-19 prevention since July 13. Only 800 firms have continued operation in the stay-at-work mode while the province is applying social distancing rules.

Long An’s industrial production index in August fell by 20.86% compared to the same period last year.
