Hoang Tung, 41, Chairman of the Nha Be District People’s Committee has just been elected chairman of the newly-established Thu Duc City People’s Committee.

Hoang Tung, an architect born in the central province of Quang Ngai, used to serve as a deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City's Planning and Architecture Department before taking the post of chairman of Nha Be District People’s Committee in October 2019.
At its first meeting on the morning of January 22, Thu Duc City People’s Council also elected three deputies of the people’s committee. They are 43-year-old Nguyen Bach Hoang Phung - deputy chairman of District 2 People’s Committee, 55-year-old Nguyen Ky Phung - deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, and Nguyen Huu Anh Tu - Deputy Chairman of Thu Duc District People's Committee.
Thu Duc was established by the integration of districts 2, 9 and Thu Duc, with an area of over 211 square kilometers and a population of over one million.
The establishment of Thu Duc City is expected to contribute to promoting local socio-economic development resources for Ho Chi Minh City. The new city is expected to contribute 30% of Ho Chi Minh City’s Gross Domestic Product and 7% of the country’s GDP.
