The tremors shook many local areas from a depth of 8.1–10 kilometres.

A great number of people in Kon Plong could feel the shaking clearly.

On December 11, five consecutive earthquakes measuring between 2.8 and 3.6 on the Richter Scale were also recorded in Kon Plong.

A Lang from Dak Tang Commune said that the shaking caused some of the items in her house to drop on the floor.

Speaking to Dantri/Dtinews, director of the Institute of Geophysics under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Nguyen Xuan Anh said that initial investigations showed that water storage at reservoirs was related to recent series of earthquakes in Kon Tum Province, so it was necessary to closely monitor and evaluate hydropower reservoirs.
