Khanh Le Pass reopens on December 24 after deadly landslides
Nguyen Van Vinh, deputy director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Construction, said pedestrians and vehicles under five tonnes, as well as cars with fewer than 16 seats, are allowed to use the pass between 6 am and 5 pm from December 24.
Heavy rain on the pass remains unpredictable, with construction teams continuing to clear debris and repair damage. Authorities have urged travellers to limit journeys during downpours, drive slowly and follow traffic signs and diversion plans.
In November, prolonged heavy rain triggered about 100 landslides, sending hundreds of cubic metres of soil and rocks onto the roadway. The most serious incident occurred on November 16, when falling rocks struck a coach, killing six people and injuring 19.
The route was subsequently sealed off, forcing vehicles travelling from Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa to Dalat in Lam Dong to detour via Phan Rang and National Highway 27, including Song Pha Pass, nearly doubling the distance.
Khanh Le Pass is 33 km long and forms part of National Highway 27C, which stretches 121 km. It is a vital artery linking Dalat and Nha Trang and is commonly used by tourist coaches. The pass is prone to landslides during the rainy season.
