Khanh Hoa withdraws from hosting Miss World 2010

An official of Khanh Hoa has confirmed that this province withdrew from hosting the Miss World 2010 Contest.

As of Feb. 4, 2010, the home page of Miss World Contest still reads: "Vietnam 6th November 2010."

Le Xuan Than, Deputy Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Province People’s Committe, has confirmed that this province withdrew from hosting the Miss World 2010 Contest. However, Khanh Hoa still hopes to host Miss Earth 2010 on its Vinpearl Land tourism complex.

On Febuary 3, the Khanh Hoa Province People’s Committee submitted an official document for withdrawing from hosting Miss World 2010 to Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan. The reason that the provincial authority cited was that the main sponsor, RAAS LTD, was not consistent in its commitment and preparation for the competition.

The initial plan was that RAAS would build a "Thousands stars complex” on an area of 1,500 ha, with 2,000 luxurious bungalows, 200 houses for beauty contests, aquatics, golf courses, common areas, shopping centres and resorts for the competition.

However, on November 5, 2008, RAAS quit this project and also refused to build "The flower road", which is 15 km long from the Cam Ranh airport to Nha Trang City. In October 2009, RAAS requested to move the event to My Tho City, Tien Giang Province. Then, on January 28, 2010, RAAS officially announced that it would withdraw from its role in preparations for Miss World 2010.

Although having to decline the chance to host Miss World 2010, Khanh Hoa Province still desires to host Miss Earth 2010. In the official document sent to the Deputy PM, Khanh Hoa officials clearly showed their wishes to host the beauty contest. According to a DTiNews source, Vinpearl Land executives have inked an agreement with the Miss Earth 2010's organising committee. Therefore, Miss Earth 2010 will be held in Nha Trang in November or December 2010.

Furthermore, Khanh Hoa Committee has been applying to host the Miss World Vietnamese contest in Nha Trang once again. The first Miss World Vietnamese was held successfully in 2007 in the beautiful coastal city.
