The Japanese Government has just decided to spend around US $1.16 billion on nine crucial infrastructure projects in Southeast Asia, including five projects in Vietnam, in form of Public Private Partnership (PPP).

This is part of Japan’s plan to promote infrastructure services abroad. According to the Japanese economic daily Nikkei, the projects in Vietnam focus on the construction of international airports, clean coal-fuelled electricity plants, industrial parks, clean water supply system and urban planning.

Japan’s Government will start feasibility studies for these projects in October 2010.

Japan is considering the use of Official Development Aid (ODA) for road and social infrastructure projects. The Japan Bank for International Cooperation will also finance these projects.

Besides infrastructure services, the Japanese Government want to resume their loans and overseas investment through the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
