Industrial zones planned for Hanoi

Plans to construct 11 industrial and high-tech zones in Hanoi over the next five years were taking shape to attract domestic and foreign investors.

Plans to construct 11 industrial and high-tech zones in Hanoi over the next five years were taking shape to attract domestic and foreign investors, according to the head of the city\'s industrial and export processing zones management board Nguyen Xuan Chinh.

To serve these zones, roads, petrol and electricity stations, schools, houses and service areas will also be built.

The city has 19 industrial and high-tech zones, eight of which are fully occupied.

These zones have attracted 518 projects with a total registered capital of US$4.7 billion, 360 of which have become operational.

Many are run by large commercial companies such as Canon, Panasonic and Meiko.

"Production value in these zones is as much as 40 per cent of the city\'s industrial production value. They also account for more than 45 per cent of the city\'s export turnover and 20 per cent of city\'s gross domestic production," reported the management board.
