Hundreds of employees at a company in Bac Ninh Province were admitted to hospital with symptoms similar to food poisoning on October 15.

One of the workers, Le Thi Sang, said that on that morning, she had a stomachache and started vomiting. When she went to the hospital she also encountered several other workers from the company with the same symptoms.
Local authorities then visited to the company to take samples in order to find out the cause of the mystery illness.
Tran Danh Phuong, head of the Bac Ninh Province’s Department of Food Hygiene and Safety, said that on October 14 the company served lunch to 1,581 workers and dinner to 200.
The lunch costs VND9,000 (USD0.42) per person and consists of simple foods such as rice, fish, fried egg and cabbage.
At 6:30pm on the same day, a number of workers started having digestive problems, and early the next morning, more than 10 workers were in the hospital.
By mid-day of October 15, more than 200 workers were admitted to Luong Tai District’s General Hospital, with 170 people suffering from symptoms similar to food poisoning.
Local authorities are actively investigating the cause of the incident.
In 2013, the company was fined for violating food safety regulations.
