The fire broke out at a house near the Central Children’s Hospital on September 17, triggering an evacuation from the hospital. It quickly spread to seven houses where patients' relatives often rent rooms.
About 19 houses were damaged and 99 people were affected but there were no reported casualties. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
The police in Ba Dinh District said on September 21 that they had received the reports about the discovery of suspected human skulls. The skulls were found near the house of Nguyen The Hiep, a landlord in the area. After several hours, firefighters and police brought out two bodies.
A neighbour said at the time of the fire, Hiep was staying at home with his daughter and three tenants.
