The damaged stretch lies along Dang Thai Than Street, about 50 metres from Hoa Binh Gate. Authorities immediately cordoned off the site and installed warning signs to ensure the safety of residents, visitors, and staff in the area.

Preliminary inspections found that the structure, built with brick on both sides and clay filling, had loose bonding and weak portions. Neighbouring sections were cracked, leaning inward, and at risk of further collapse if rain or flooding continues.

The centre has requested the Thua Thien-Hue Department of Construction to lead an investigation in coordination with the provincial Department of Culture and Sports to determine the cause and recommend restoration measures.

It will also work with relevant agencies to secure and monitor the damaged site and other vulnerable sections of the complex during the rainy season.

Once weather conditions improve, a full assessment of the entire Imperial Citadel wall system and the Ngoai Kim Thuy Lake embankment will be conducted.

Restoration and reinforcement works, estimated at VND 300 billion to VND 500 billion (approximately USD 11.4 million to USD 19 million), will aim to preserve the site’s structural integrity and historical value.
