Honda Vietnam is recalling 152,053 Wave 110 RSX motorbikes due to improperly assembled taillight systems.

The recall affects model produced between March and August of this year, the Japanese-invested manufacturer said in a statement yesterday. The improperly assembled cable operating the taillight and brake light systems would not affect the safety of the vehicles, the statement said.

Free repair and replacement of the faulty feature would be offered at any of Honda's authorised service centres nationwide between September 25 and December 31.

Honda, which also recalled 2,154 of its Lead model scooters in 2010 due to the inappropriate installed fuel tanks, said it would contact buyers of the affected model to inform them of the recall.

Meanwhile, Honda has an inventory of about 70,000 unsold motorbikes sitting in its factory in the northern province of Vinh Phuc due to weak sales, according to the Vinh Phuc People Committee. The company invested $70 million in 2010 to increase its annual production capacity to two million units.
