A shop owner, Nguyen Van Minh said that his souvenir shop received no customers on the opening day so he closed at 3pm.

"It has rained heavily over the past few days and the reopening fell on the weekday so we can understand the quiet atmosphere," he said. "I hope that we will see more visitors coming soon."

Another shop owner on Bach Dang Street, Le Thi Sen, said that she used to sell souvenirs but has recently changed to serve coffee after Vietnam closed to foreign tourists during the pandemic.

"The town was still very quiet now but I think we will soon receive more visitors both domestic and international after reopening this time," she said.

The city has now resumed activities at pedestrian and non-motorised vehicle streets and night streets in addition to the organisation of tours to Hoi An Old Town, Thanh Ha pottery village, Tra Que vegetable village, Bay Mau historical site, and Cham Island.

According to the Chairman of Hoi An city People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Son, the city is offering a half price discount on entrance fees to the old town, traditional trade villages, Bay Mau coconut forest and Cu Lao Cham island on this occasion.

"We will mostly serve domestic tourists first before receiving the first group of international visitors who are coming on a package tour on November 17 and 18," he said. "We expect to fully resume all tourism activities from early next year."
