Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant face water shortage
Nguyen Van Minh, director of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant, said low water level had badly affected their power plan in the coming months. In late April, they produced 1.4 billion kWh, accounting for 16.8% of the set goal and 67.8% of the same period in previous years. This represents a record low electricity output for the plant.
Vietnam Electricity (EVN) said Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant plays an important role in contributing 1,920 MW into the national grid. In the first four months of the year, the reservoir only received 4.16 billion cubic metres from the upstream, or 89% compared to the previous years. The numbers represent a record low since the plant was put into operation in 2011.
In the coming months, EVN will run all turbines at full capacity.
