The 11-km line was previously approved for construction using Official Development Assistance funding from the Asian Development Bank, European Investment Bank, and German Reconstruction Bank. This project has a total investment of nearly VND48 trillion (USD1.92 billion).

At a meeting held on November 25, the HCM City People's Committee decided to use the city's budget to carry out the remaining works of the project.

The committee also approved adding construction works to connect metro 1 and 2.

The project, which has ten stations running through districts 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh, and Tan Phu, is still in the site clearance stage, as its ODA capital has yet to be extended.

Following multiple delays and various adjustments, the project is now scheduled to be completed by 2030.

Meanwhile, the city's Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien) is scheduled to be put into commercial operation on December 22, 2024 after 12 years of construction.
