The vaccine is aimed to provide the second shot of Covid-19 vaccine for all of the local 7.2 million adult population by the end of this year.

HCM City will need around 8.1 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine from now to the year-end of this year
The HCM City Covid-19 Prevention and Control Steering Board said that the city’s Covid-19 vaccination by late this year would be divided into four phases. In the first phase which starts from August 29 to September 5, the city would need 2.7 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to provide the first jab for 680,000 people and the second jab for more than two million people.
In the second phase on September 19-30, the city would need around 1.3 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to cover the first shots for roughly 720,000 people and the second jabs for 656,900 people.
With 2.6 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine, the third phase from October 1-15 was aimed to give the second shot for 2.6 million people. Meanwhile, around 1.4 million people are expected to have the second shot of Covid-19 vaccine in the fourth phase from October 16 and December 31.
Besides the Covid-19 vaccine supply from the Ministry of Health, the HCM City Department of Health and concerned agencies have sought to buy vaccines from different sources and called on the support from organisations.
HCM City has prioritised Covid-19 vaccination for some groups, including elderly people, frontline medical staff in the Covid-19 fight and people with underlying medical conditions.
From March 8 to August 27, 5.8 million people were vaccinated against Covid-19 with 273,767 given a second shot. To date, 83% of the city’s population aged from 18 have been vaccinated against the virus.
