HCM City will need around 153,500-161,500 new workers in the second half of this year, the HCM City Centre for Forecasting Manpower Needs and Labour Market Information (FALMI) has forecasted.

FALMI's survey showed that businesses in the trade and service sectors require the most workers, with 102,000 to 108,000 people, accounting for nearly 67 percent of the city's total labour demand in the city. The industrial and construction sectors follow it with 50,700 to 53,300 jobs, and the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors with 0.08 percent.

Around 88 percent of the positions need trained workers. Of these, 19.54 percent need a university degree or higher, while the remainder require college and vocational training school graduation.

According to FALMI, HCM City has seen improvement in many sectors, particularly technology, services, tourism and real estate. This has boosted demand and reduced unemployment.

In the first six months of the year, recruitment demand has sharply increased in sales and marketing for the industrial area and for expert personnel in the manufacturing and supply sectors. Some sectors, like manufacturing and export, have also witnessed a slight rise in recruitment demand by 5 percent on-year.
