HCM City leases more pavements

Authorities in HCM City’s District 1 have leased pavements on 41 more local streets from today, October 25, following the successful pilot programme of the first 11 streets.

According to the district People’s Committee, there have been 374 business registrations on the pavements of 11 piloted streets, paying a total fee of VND810 million (USD32,400) during the five-month trial period.

Vu Nguyen Quang Vinh, vice chairman of the committee, said that on streets with leased pavements, pedestrian areas are being properly maintained to ensure traffic safety.

Vinh added that the 41 newly selected streets for the pavement rental service fully meet infrastructure requirements and have no impact on traffic.

HCM City has piloted collecting pavement rental fees on 11 streets since May 9.

Rented pavements must provide a minimum of 1.5 metres for pedestrians, while the roads need to accommodate at least two one-way car lanes."

Districts in HCM City are reviewing and updating the list of streets with pavements qualified for charging usage fees in line with the municipal Traffic Safety Board and the Department of Transport.
