According to the HCM City Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention, after the fatality rate went down for a week, it has increased again. On August 22, the city recorded 340 deaths and this figure dropped to 245 on August 29. However, it went up to 335 on August 30.

Deputy Director of Department of Health Nguyen Van Vinh Chau said since January 1, the city has recorded a total of 9,204 deaths.

"The statistics from WHO showed that depending on each stage of the pandemic, the fatality rate often ranges from 2.1-4.4%. The authorities are doing the best to reduce these numbers in HCM City," Chau said.

Eighty percent of the patients recover on the fifth or sixth day. However, their situations can also worsen from the seventh to the tenth day. Some cases are too severe to be treated.

Chau said the fatality rate may reduce in the next few days or weeks.
