Firms in HCM City will need some 50,000 workers during the first quarter of this year according to the municipal Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Director of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Le Minh Tan speaks at the meeting on February 11.
Speaking at a Friday meeting with secretary of the city's party committee, Nguyen Van Nen and representatives from local firms, director of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Le Minh Tan said that the city would need a big number of workers in some sectors including IT, garments and textile, footwear, engineering, and food processing.
Tan added that this year the city would support firms to build houses for workers and assist workers to buy houses at social housing projects so that migrant workers will stay longer with local firms.
"We'll also carry out various social security programmes for workers and ask local firms to ensure fair payment for their employees."
Speaking at the meeting, the city's party leader Nguyen Van Nen said that more than 1.9 million or 96 percent of workers have returned to work at local firms.
