Tran Thanh Linh, deputy director of the hospital, said that in early November, the hospital reduced capacity to just 150 beds after the pandemic had been basically brought under control in HCM City.

However, over the past ten days, the number of new Covid-19 patients in HCM City has been on the rise again. Each day, the Covid-19 Resuscitation Hospital receives around 30-35 patients in worsened conditions. So, on December 5, the hospital reopened Intensive Care Unit 2B again.
“Currently, the hospital has around 200 patients. We’ve proposed raising capacity to at least 300 in the week to come and even up to 500 in the coming time,” Linh added.
However, one of the difficulties for the hospital is the shortage of staff as the city’s health sector now has to support other southern localities.
According to Tan Chi Thuong, director of the HCM City Department of Health, after October 1, the city saw a sharp fall in Covid-19 patients and deaths. However, new infections and fatalities have increased.
