Hanoi to spend USD2 billion on healthcare development

Under a plan just approved by the municipal People’s Committee, by 2015, the city targets to reach the rate of 12.5 doctors per 10,000 people and two pharmacists per 10,000 people. The figure will be raised by 13.5 and 2.5 respectively by 2020 and 14 and 3 by 2030.

The city also will try to reach the rate of a sick-bed for every 10,000 people to 20 by 2015, 25 by 2020 and 30 by 2030. By 2015, all communes and towns will meet national standards on healthcare.

According to the plan, between 2011 and 2015, Hanoi will build 10 hospitals which will provide a total 3,850 sick-beds. In the 2016-2020 period, the city will build another 15 hospitals with a total bed of 5,000.

Hanoi will also set up nine satellite emergency stations in My Dinh, Bac Thang Long and Hoa Lac, Xuan Mai and Van Dinh. In new urban areas or resettlement areas, a national standard health clinic will serve every 8,000 people.
