The Hanoi Green Trees-Park Limited Company has started gathering public opinion after much controversy over the plan to replace thousands of trees in the capital.

Notice board put on each tree
The company will put up a notice board on each tree they are going to chop down and replace so that the people could inspect it.
According to the company's deputy director, Nguyen Xuan Hung, by the morning of March 20, 70 notice boards have been put up.
People can express their opposition to the replacement and protect the trees they deem valuable via the phone number 04.39764540 to the company. Any trees that are not given feedback will be chop down.
The company expects to replace 4,340 trees in the city within this year.
When the city announced the plan to chop down 6,700 trees, including trees that are still strong, many people raised voices of concerns. Several ancient trees have witnessed the history of the city and have historical values. Moreover, the city has not asked for their opinions.
Nguyen Thinh Thanh, chief of the office of the committee, said the capital has about 120,000 trees of 70 kinds.
After surveying the field, they found out that 6,700 trees are age-old, decaying or encroaching the streets. According to the official, these large and tall trees are posing a threat to people and vehicles as they can fall at any time. Moreover, there are many trees of different kinds that the locals planted on their own.
The Department of Construction proposed with Hanoi People's Committee to replace these 6,700 trees from 2015 to 2017. The plan is estimated to cost VND60bn.
Thanh said, "The Department of Construction have held press conference and collaborated with local authorities to inform the people. Most people have approved of the plan."
