Speaking at a Monday meeting, the director of Hanoi Transport Department Nguyen Phi Truong said that the city has planned to build 15 metro lines with a total length of 616.90 km by 2045.
"Amid rising transportation demand in the city, we'll try to raise the capacity of the local public transport system so that it can handle 50-55 percent of traffic volume by 2035, and 65-70 percent in the years after that," the official said, adding that they have targeted to complete 10 lines spanning nearly 411 km of urban metro line by 2035 and an additional five lines spanning 200.70 km by 2045.
Currently, Hanoi has put into use two metro lines including the Line 2A spanning 13 km and the elevated section of the Line 3 spanning 8.5 km.
