Traffic police in Hanoi have conducted alcohol and drug tests on drivers operating school transport vehicles as part of efforts to strengthen road safety.
A unit from the Traffic Police Division 6 on March 17 deployed patrol teams to inspect school transport services in Tu Liem and Cau Giay wards.

According to Do Manh Cuong, a senior lieutenant, the checks focused on enforcing safety standards, including alcohol screening, drug testing and compliance with regulations for school vehicles.
During nearly an hour of inspections, officers checked dozens of drivers and found no alcohol or drug violations. All vehicles were reported to meet safety requirements, including the installation of child reminder systems.
A 50-year-old driver operating in Cau Giay Ward said stricter enforcement was necessary to improve compliance, particularly in school transport services.
Later the same afternoon, another mobile patrol from the same unit handled traffic violations involving students and parents near a school in Tu Liem Ward.
Offences included illegal parking outside school gates, failure to wear helmets and carrying more passengers than permitted. Officers recorded 10 violations during the operation.
One woman was fined VND 700,000 (about USD 27) for stopping her car in a no-parking zone while picking up her child. She told officers she had been in a hurry and had not noticed the traffic sign.

The Hanoi Traffic Police Division said discipline among students has improved, though some continue to ride illegally, go without helmets or carry too many passengers, posing safety risks.
Authorities said inspections and enforcement targeting school-age road users would be further intensified to help prevent accidents and raise awareness of traffic laws.
