Traffic control in Hanoi will be increased during key events over the Tet holidays to alleviate congestion and reduce delays.
Colonel Dao Vinh Thang, head of the Hanoi Traffic Police Department, said the number of vehicles on Hanoi streets is expected to rise by up to 10 percent more than usual levels, increasingly the likelihood of traffic jams.
Thang said more police would be assigned to traffic control at and around 48 flower markets and the 31 most popular sites for watching fireworks displays.

The Hanoi Transport Department and Hanoi Transport and Services Corporation has been instructed to divide road lanes and arrange adequate areas for parking.
Major General Nguyen Duc Chung, director of the Hanoi Police Department, also said street vendors should be moved to ease foot traffic on pavements during Tet.
