The chairman of Hanoi People's Committee has approved plans to build a high-rise complex building near Hoan Kiem Lake.
A hotel on Ly Thai To Street
The land slated to house the complex is to be taken from nearly 10,000 square metres area on Tran Nguyen Han and Ly Thai To streets, currently the headquarters of Electrical Manufacturing Instrument Company (EMIC). The headquarters will be moved out of the inner city, turning the land into commercial property.
The chairman of Hanoi People's Committee, Nguyen The Thao, agreed to use more than 6,000 square metres of this land for the high-rise complex.
He said that the plan is also in line with Hanoi's master plan construction through 2030 with a vision toward 2050, which includes the building of new three to five star hotels in the four inner districts of the city.
As usual, however, any construction near Hoan Kiem Lake is subject to public scrutiny. Many people have already expressed concern over the effects the project will have on the aesthetics of the lake area. A number of high rise projects in this vicinity have already been scrapped or adjusted because of public criticism.
In 2007, Electricity of Vietnam Group, had to abandoned plans to build a financial and commercial centre on Dinh Tien Hoang Street after strong public opposition even though the plans had been approved by local authorities.
Architect Dao Ngoc Nghiem, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi Association of Planning and Urban Development, said that the land gained after the moving of state agency headquarters should be used as parks, schools or parking lots.
