Hanoi cancels Lunar New Year's Eve drone light show

Hanoi authorities have announced the cancellation of a drone light show scheduled to take place on Tuesday's Lunar New Year's Eve.

The decision was made after a rehearsal held on the evening of January 26, during which some drones fell onto an empty field due to technical issues, sparking a fire in the dry grass.

Some drones reportedly fell from the sky and burst into flames near the stadium. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The light show was part of the Radiant Thang Long Programme, scheduled to be held at My Dinh National Stadium in Nam Tu Liem District on Lunar New Year's Eve.

As a result, the organising committee decided to cancel the drone light show to ensure the success of the event.

The drone light show was designed to feature 2,025 drones, showcasing stunning light effects such as waterfalls, sparkles, and animations. It was expected to set a Guinness World Record for the largest drone light show.

The Radiant Thang Long Programme includes a 15-minute fireworks display and an art performance featuring numerous famous singers.
