From September 18 to 24, the southern region is likely to experience moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain and thunderstorms in some areas. Total rainfall is forecast at 150-300mm, exceeding 300mm in some places.

The weather pattern is attributed to an intensifying intertropical convergence zone shifting southwards across the south-central and southern regions, combined with upper-level wind convergence.

The weather agency has issued a level-one natural disaster risk warning for heavy rain.

Residents have been warned of possible flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial zones, and areas along rivers and canals.

Thunderstorms could also bring tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts, posing risks to people, vehicles and buildings.

Local authorities have been advised to closely monitor weather developments, identify areas at risk of flooding and prepare response measures for heavy rain.
