Bai Chay Hospital in Quang Ninh said it admitted Fillon Stephane Georges Robert on the evening of April 19 with severe chest pain.
According to the patient and an interpreter, symptoms began at around 2 pm the same day with persistent pain behind the sternum, spreading to the back and left arm, gradually worsening. About two hours before admission, the pain intensified significantly without treatment.
Doctors diagnosed an acute myocardial infarction and immediately performed emergency coronary intervention to restore blood flow. The medical team activated emergency protocols, established intravenous access and administered anticoagulants, dual antiplatelet therapy, statins and supportive medication.
Coronary angiography revealed a large right coronary artery with diffuse narrowing in segment two and complete occlusion at the distal end of the same segment.
Doctors carried out percutaneous coronary intervention, placing two drug eluting stents in segments two and three of the right coronary artery. After the procedure, blood flow was restored to TIMI 3, the optimal level of reperfusion.

The procedure was led by Doctor Dinh Danh Trinh, head of cardiology, and his team. After two days of treatment, the patient’s condition stabilised, chest pain resolved and he remains under monitoring.
Trinh said acute myocardial infarction is a life threatening condition that can be fatal without timely intervention, adding that the successful treatment of an international patient demonstrates the hospital’s capability in handling complex cardiac emergencies.
