A woman and her son drown while fishing on the Dam River on December 16.

According to a report from Quang Nam authorities, the province witnessed heavy rain between December 12-15, causing rising floods in local rivers. Many roads in Duy Xuyen and Dai Loc districts have been deeply flooded.

On the afternoon of December 15, two boys Ng uyen Quyen Quy and Nguyen Tan Tai, both nine years old, were swept away while walking on a flooded road in Duy Xuyen District. Their bodies were found later that day.

On Monday morning, Chau Thi Hon, 55, and her 34-year-old son both drowned while going fishing on the Dam River. Their boat capsized due to strong winds and high waves, causing the two to fall into deep water which was rising by up to three metres.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that heavy rains have caused flooding in some central provinces since December 12. The water levels in local rivers have begun to recede from the afternoon of December 16.
