The fire broke out at the Central Electric Power College’s parking lot at nearly 6 am. College employees drove 12 electric cars out, but the remaining 40 were destroyed.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze after 30 minutes.

A private firm rented the car park for the electric vehicles.

Local authorities are investigating the case.

The electric cars had 8-14 seats and replaced 29-seat vehicles for tourist travelling into the centre of Hoi An Town.
