A 30-kg fire extinguisher exploded in a storeroom of the US Consulate General in HCM City on afternoon of July 18, causing one death and five injuries, Consul General Le Thanh An confirmed.
The scence of the accident
The consulate general hired the Quoc An Company to move the fire extinguisher from Diamond Plaza to its office. While employees of the company were opening the valves of the extinguisher, it exploded, fatally wounding Duong Trong Han, who was performing routine maintenance on an air conditioning unit nearby.
The 33-year old victim from Dong Thap Province and was employed in the service department at the consulate.
Those suffering from injuries were taken to the hospital. Authorities of District 3 blockaded the scene and began an investigation to find the cause.
