Tay Ninh diversifies tourism offerings to encourage longer stays

Tay Ninh Province is expanding its tourism offerings and developing new attractions to encourage visitors to stay longer and spend more as it seeks to make tourism a key economic sector by 2030.

The locality welcomed an estimated 6.38 million visitors in the first eight months of this year, up 11 per cent year-on-year, including 125,000 international arrivals. Tourism revenue reached VND 5.6 trillion (USD 213 million).

Tay Ninh Vice Chairman Pham Tan Hoa said the province was pursuing measures ranging from heritage conservation and infrastructure investment to new tourism products, regional links, the night-time economy and digital transformation.

Several major projects are being advanced around Ba Den Mountain, including a 41-hectare commercial and services complex targeted to open in 2028 and a 79-hectare urban development serving the Ba Den Mountain National Tourist Area.

A 69.86-hectare tourism and resort complex on the mountain summit, with investment of more than VND 5.35 trillion (USD 203 million), is targeted to break ground in 2026.

The province is also developing a spiritual, ecological and historical tour linking Ba Den Mountain with the Cao Dai Holy See, Lo Go-Xa Mat National Park and the Central Office for South Vietnam site, while expanding links with HCM City, the southeast and Mekong Delta.

Tay Ninh is expanding into river, community, agricultural, craft village, spiritual and night-time tourism, with 37 tours linking destinations across the former Tay Ninh and Long An provinces, 12 new destinations and five new products.

During the five-day National Day holiday from August 29 to September 2, Tay Ninh received about 315,600 visitors, up 51.4 per cent year-on-year, generating an estimated VND 278 billion (USD 10.6 million) in tourism revenue.

Ba Den Mountain National Tourist Area attracted about 118,000 visitors, while other attractions, rest stops and agricultural tourism sites received around 197,600, indicating a broader spread of visitors beyond the province's main attraction.

The province is also strengthening regional and international tourism links and developing night-time activities to encourage overnight stays and increase visitor spending.

Hoa said Tay Ninh's strategy was focused not only on increasing visitor numbers but also on extending stays, raising spending and generating greater economic value from each trip.

Tay Ninh has integrated tourism development into its 2021-2030 provincial planning, with a vision to 2050, spanning destinations from Ba Den Mountain and Dau Tieng Lake to the Vam Co rivers, craft villages and spiritual attractions.
