Hundreds of floating shelters have been used to shelter many households in flood-hit areas in the central province of Quang Binh.
Tan Hoa and Minh Hoa communes in Minh Hoa District are the two hardest-hit communes in Quang Binh Province in the recent flood. Dinh Minh Hien, party secretary of Tan Hoa Commune, said, "These are poor communes and everyone suffers more losses after each flood."According to Hien, they were submerged under over five metres of water. Despite preparations, they still couldn't react in time to the fast-rising flood. The floating houses proved to be essential in the flood-prone areas.
"Without the floating houses, there would have been even more damage and life would be much harder and more dangerous every flood," said Ngan Thi Hang from Village 1, Tan Hoa Commune.

Minh Hoa Commune was also submerged under four to five metres of water in the recent flood. Hundreds of households lost their belongings and livestock.
Cao Xuan An, party secretary of Minh Hoa Commune, said 300 households in their area had to deal with flooding regularly. Because of poverty and limited budget, they can't realise the floating house project for Minh Hoa.
Representatives of Dantri arrived in Quang Binh to survey the fields in order to build more floating houses for the locals there. 50 houses will be built for VND1.5bn (USD64,400) which was donated by Dantri readers.
Each house will be 15-20 square metres and could house 6-8 people along with their belongings.
Dantri will collaborate with local authorities to start the project in December.
