The National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting reported that between April 10 and 17, the northwestern region of Vietnam would be hit by smog caused by the burning of straw stubble in Laos. This has reduced the visibility at Dien Bien Phu Airport area to just some 2,000 metres against the standard level of 4,200 metres, badly affecting the landing and takeoff of flights to and from Dien Bien Phu Airport.
