The city welcomed over 1.03 million domestic visitors during the period, up 3.4 percent on-year.
Chairman of the Danang Tourism Association, Cao Tri Dung, said that the number of visitors to the city in the first quarter was equivalent to that reported in 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This shows the city's tourism sector is getting back on track and strongly recovering," he said. "One of the key factors that brought these positive figures, especially in foreign tourist numbers, was the resumption of many international flights."
The official said that the flight connecting Danang and Japan's Narita City with four flights per week has helped bring many Japanese tourists back to the city. Vietnam Airlines has planned to increase the frequency of this route to seven flights weekly from July 1 as Japan offers huge potential in terms of the Danang tourism industry. More than 183,000 Japanese tourists visited Danang in 2019, an increase of nearly 200 percent from 2015.
Lao Airlines has also launched a flight connecting Vientiane and Danang with two flights per week on Thursday and Sunday, bringing the total number of international air routes to Danang to 16 with an average of 40 flights and over 560,000 passengers daily.
Many international visitors have arrived in Danang from cruise ships. The city welcomed nine ships with 7,300 passengers in the first quarter of 2023.
Deputy director of the Danang Tourism Department, Nguyen Xuan Binh said that they are planning to organise tourism fairs in some neighbouring countries including Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia to introduce their products and services to potential visitors. In addition, the city will continue to launch more new products and tours to attract more tourists.
"We're completing the plan for the Danang Summer Festival 2023," the official said. "We'll also work with Son Tra District People's Committee to pilot a night market on Nguyen Van Troi Bridge and co-operate with Hai Chau District to pilot a walking street along Bach Dang and Tran Hung Dao streets."
