Vietnam Airlines Group offers 3.7 million seats for 2027 Tet holiday

Vietnam Airlines Group will open bookings on August 25 for nearly 3.7 million seats over the 2027 Lunar New Year, up 11 per cent from the previous Tet holiday.

The initial ticket release by Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and Vasco will cover the month-long peak travel period from January 22 to February 20, 2027.

The group said the early sale would give passengers more time to plan trips home, family visits and holidays, while capacity would be adjusted based on bookings.

On domestic routes, capacity between Hanoi and HCM City will rise 15.4 per cent from Tet 2026, while HCM City-Danang services will increase 7 per cent. Routes from HCM City to Haiphong, Thanh Hoa, Vinh and Hue will see increases of 6-13 per cent.

Tet travel typically sees strong one-way demand, with passengers travelling from southern Vietnam to northern and central regions before the holiday and flows reversing afterwards.

According to Nguyen Quang Trung, deputy general director of Vietnam Airlines, passengers travelling against peak flows could have more options in terms of fares and departure times.

Before Tet, travellers from Hanoi and northern Vietnam could consider flights to HCM City, Danang, Cam Ranh and Phu Quoc, while after the holiday more seats and fare options may be available on some routes from southern and central Vietnam to the north.

Internationally, the group will increase services between Vietnam and Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Singapore, among other high-demand markets.

More than 1.1 million international seats will be available from January 22 to February 20, up 10 per cent from Tet 2026. Capacity will rise 94 per cent on Danang-Seoul, 81 per cent on Hanoi-Osaka, 64 per cent on Hanoi-Taipei and 58 per cent on Danang-Tokyo routes.

The group will also add more late-night and early-morning flights during peak periods to ease pressure on busy daytime slots and make better use of its fleet. Flights operating between 9 pm and 5 am will account for about 17 per cent of the total.

Vietnam Airlines Group said it would add further capacity on high-demand routes depending on bookings, particularly immediately before Tet and as travellers return to work afterwards.

Passengers are advised to book early and remain flexible with travel dates and times, with off-peak-direction flights potentially offering greater availability and better fares.
