Hundreds of households cut off by flooding in Quang Ngai

Prolonged heavy rain has inundated the Dak Ak spillway bridge in Quang Ngai Province, with strong currents cutting off access to two villages and isolating 283 households.

Nguyen Van Dieu, chairman of Dak Long Commune, said on August 19 that the Dak Ak spillway bridge was deeply flooded after heavy rain caused floodwaters from upstream to surge downstream.

Rising water levels and strong currents have made the bridge impassable, while further heavy rain is expected to push water levels even higher.

The Dak Ak spillway bridge is the only road linking Dak Ak Village with Dak On and Long Yen villages, where 283 households live. The flooding has severely disrupted travel and trade for local residents.

Dak Long Commune authorities have stationed personnel at the bridge to prevent people from crossing and ensure their safety.

Heavy rain has also triggered a landslide in Dak Ak Village, threatening two households. Local authorities urgently evacuated the two families to a safe area.

Dak Long Commune police have warned residents not to cross the spillway bridge on foot, by motorbike, car or any other means while water levels remain high and currents are strong.
