Journalist Phan Huy, head of Dan Tri’s representative office in Can Tho Province, went to Kien Giang Province for a site survey to begin resolving bridge construction related issues.
Huy spoke to the People’s Committee of An Bien district about the fundamental goals of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education and Compassionate Hearts Charity Fund of Dan Tri newspaper during the past years. On the agenda in 2010, the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education in collaboration with Shinnyo-En, a Japanese Buddhist organisation, will build a concrete bridge for the Tay Yen Commune, An Bien District, Kien Giang Province where pupils dare not go to school because they are afraid of falling off the dangerous bamboo bridge.

The bridge is being built so that pupils can safely make it to school and to improve the daily lives for the community, according to Phan Huy. He also expects a close coordination of local authorities in order to build a qualified, nice bridge and avoid technical mistakes as well as accidents during implementation.
Huy also added that the Editor in Chief of Dan Tri had approved to name the bridge “Dan Tri” (People’s Intelligence) which has two meanings: (1) It conveys a wish that people in the remote areas could access more knowledge and education. (2) It is also the name of the sponsoring newspaper.
The two parties made a site survey
This is a very precious gift given by Dan Tri, according to Le Hai, Vice Chairman of the An Bien People’s Committee. He also requested provincial and related agencies to review designing, construction and expenditure plans as well as to set up a supervising team including ordinary people to oversee the construction.
The two parties have agreed to begin construction on January 15, 2010 and the project is expected to take about 2 months.
Phan Huy also said he plans to recommend that the chief editor of Dan Tri grant some scholarships to poor pupils in Tay Yen.
